After announcing his plans for 2021 and getting ready to race for a championship, we thought it would be great for fans to find out more about Dave’s history with racing, what he finds most challenging and the specifics on his goals for this year.
Q: When did you first start racing?
I started young. My dad took me to Freeport, Islip and Riverhead Raceways as a kid as well as Daytona 500 every year. I grew up around racing. He always sponsored cars, so we traveled to races. Once I turned sixteen, I started racing myself. I owe it all to my dad and how he raised me.
Q: What was your favorite race or races?
My favorite races are the long-distance races (more laps). I enjoy the format and how they are run. They’re more of a challenge and so is the game plan involved.
Q: What has been your biggest challenge?
My biggest challenge is how racing has changed from the cars to sponsor commitments. The whole deal has changed over the past ten years.
Q: Any special shout-outs to your team?
The team we have built over the last five years has been the best I ever had. I am very lucky to be surrounded by the best people in racing now, from my tire guy, to spotter and crew chief. They are all so good at what they do, from the shop to the track, each one of them plays a part in our success.
Q: Anything specific you’d like to say to your fans? The last two years have been really great with my fans and the friends I have made through the race track and social media. It's been a blessing in every way!
Q: What are your goals for 2021?
My goals for 2021 are to go back to racing as much as I can. 2020, with COVID-19, kind of locked us into the modifieds only. This year, we will be running super pro truck, late model, and modifieds. I like to keep busy at the track, racing 2-3 classes each night. That’s the best thing for me - to keep focused and busy. We will be running more races this year than we ever have. I can't wait for it to start up!
